RCIA - Rite of Christian Initiation Adults

Catholic faith mean to me – everything! Coming back to the faith after 50+ years has been amazing. As my husband Bill said, “It’s like stepping out of a black and white 2-dimensional picture into a 3-D picture blazing with color.”  The richness and fullness of the faith always astounds me and it will take the rest of my lifetime to know and understand it all. Being Catholic has helped me deepen my relationship with Jesus and I’ve gotten to know Mary as my mother. Then, of course, there is the communion of saints - I have been so blessed by getting to know that great cloud of witnesses that surround and support us; reading and learning about the saints inspires me to love the Lord more, grow and be open to whatever He calls me to do. Having our marriage blessed by Fr. David and going through Confirmation at the Easter Vigil was the highlight of this year and of my spiritual journey. The graces I’ve experienced from the Sacraments have been profound with inner healing and peace, and I am experiencing the beginning of a return of joy in my life. Going through RCIA was a beautiful process and I am grateful to Sr. Sharon, the lay leaders, and our sponsors, Doug and Sharon – thank you all for the gift of your time and energy, it was a labor of love. You are all beautiful servants of Christ. ~Denise Beal

What RCIA did for me was to introduce me to the Catholic practice of Christian faith and explain some of the structures, beliefs and methods used by Catholics in their journey.  I’ve been a believer for a long time in the evangelical Protestant church.  Getting oriented and comfortable in this new walk was important.  I was able to meet some very special folks who are now good friends.  The support from the group was important, the leadership from Sister Sharon was stellar.  Her knowledge, humor and enthusiasm are contagious as is her support and encouragement.  The lay leaders were also significant in their effect on the course.  Harry, Cesar, Chris and Wayne all brought a unique perspective with friendly and insightful teaching for us all.  Our sponsors, Doug and Sharon Warren are gifts from God to us.  To not only have this experience, but add to it the consecration of our marriage and the confirmation of our faith at the Easter Vigil, it was like winning the Holy Spirit lottery!  We’re so glad to be a part of Our Lady of Lourdes.  I’m so thankful for all of those who have helped us and become our new friends and family in Christ.      ~Bill Beal
