The Women’s Council is open to all the ladies in the parish including not only Catholic, but also non-Catholic women. The Women’s Council began under Msgr. Stoup in 1958 to give ladies of the parish an organization that could assist the Pastor in serving the parish at large. Its purpose was to bring together all the women within Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. In partnership with the Women’s Council, Guilds (small neighborhood groups that meet in homes) were also established, six of which continue today with some having mother-daughter members. Currently, the Women’s Council membership has broadened to include ladies living in neighboring parishes in the San Fernando Region.

The Women’s Council sponsors and supports a variety of activities that foster spiritual growth through religious, educational, and social programs at the parish. These activities include social gatherings such as the Women’s Council monthly meetings which have a different focus each month.  Perhaps you attended our annual Membership Tea in September which honors all past presidents. Beyond the social events there are many activities that provide service to the parish community, including the blood drive, hosting a monthly Continental Breakfast, sponsoring the Festival, and the scholarship luncheon each spring which currently funds the 8th grade scholarships for girls going on to a Catholic high school. The Council also presents a yearly gift to the parish. The annual women’s silent retreat weekend encourages a time of reflection and spiritual growth.  The degree of involvement is totally up to you!  Come to one or two of the social meetings or a special event or totally immerse yourself in as many activities as you feel comfortable doing.

The benefits of becoming a member of Women’s Council are many.  But probably the greatest benefit is the friendships that are formed amongst the ladies while in the service of the Lord.  These friendships yield a strengthening of faith and well-being that is hard to find outside of parish life.  And many of these friendship last a lifetime!

So whether you are new to the parish, or have been a long time member of the parish, Women’s Council invites and encourages you to join us.  As the song says….“all are welcome in this place”  on the third Tuesday of the month.
